What3words: cones:pushy:reason The amount of litter, is disgusting, grass areas cut, shredded cones , tyres, rubbish, that should have been cleared prior to the grass cutting. This is just an example. Why are operatives not clearing the area first. I travelled length of the M5 jtn 31 up to jtn 4 on Saturday and from jtn 2 to jtn 31. The amount of discarded cones, uncollected, sandbags, A frames. There were signs about not discarding litter on the carriageway, which we dont, but the amount of uncollected equipment is disgusting. As taxpayers pay for this equipment, why are staff not collecting these equipment pieces. Highways England, need to lead by example and collect their own equipment ,instead of littering verges, central reservations, slip ways and caring for the environment.

Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people.
Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow. To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response.
