All M1 drains blocked Jct 32 to 33

Reported via mobile in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 12:51, Monday 13 July 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9777927.

All the drains are clearly blocked with many years growth of weeds and detritus and silt. This would never happen if the road was ever being properly swept or the drains cleared out. This is completely unacceptable deliberate mismanagement by NH and their contractors of a road which is liable to flash flooding in heavy rain. Get these drains cleared please!

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report.

We regularly review flooding hotspot locations and junction 32/33 is currently not one that requires additional management, other than cyclical activities.

As this is predominantly an all lane running section, the carriageway is very rarely swept as vehicular traffic maintains low levels of detritus, however, as part of drainage maintenance, when the kerbs are cleared of silt, the carriageway in lane 1 is swept clear.

It is quite common for weeds to grow out of the holes in the kerbs, and this can happen over a matter of months, if not weeks, given the current weather conditions.

The last maintenance of this section was June, with further planned works for August, and into September.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards
