Road surface is breaking up

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 20:14, Tuesday 9 June 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9591084.

There are two sections of road between lanes two and three, just before the town centre exit, that is breaking up. The patches are breaking up around the edges, leaving loose tarmac and stones on the carriageway. As vehicles accelerate away from the traffic lights, their tyres pick up and project these loose stones backwards and sideways.

As a result, I have already had my windscreen chipped twice, and my car bonnet has now also been damaged. This is clearly an ongoing hazard caused by the deteriorating road surface and is causing repeated damage to vehicles using the road.

It is unacceptable that motorists are continuing to suffer damage because the carriageway is not maintained to an adequate standard.
