Lane closure

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 13:12, Thursday 4 June 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9561098.

Inside Lane closure on Winnal round, filter lane for A34 about approach from Winchester. This has caused increased tailbacks with time to exit from Moorside Road Industrial estate taking up to 50 minutes + at peak times. The lane has been closed for 3 weeks with no evidence of work in progress. Additional is the extending of the traffic red light sequence which was already too short on green at only 6 seconds. Previously the red interval was 1 minute, this has now been extended to 1 min 15 seconds and has added additional congestion and delay as a direct result. Noted also is the M23 shows no congestion at peak exiting the motorway onto the Winnal roundabout, where as the A34 South bound, ques of up to 25 minutes can be experienced during peak times. Please address the issue, possible the use of cameras and remote settings adjusting for peak.

Updates

  • Agreed. The timings of the traffic lights are very poor and reflect the incompetence of those responsible for them. The queues southbound on the A34 are completely unacceptable and are causing many people to miss ferries to the Isle of Wight. The roundabout would work better, if they were all turned off!
