Debris and plant matter in gully

Reported via mobile in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 18:04, Wednesday 3 June 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9556420.

Along both carriageways, east and westbound, of the A180 between Barnetby Top Jct 5 and Grimsby the gullies are blocked with debris and plant matter. This has caused a very dangerous situation with the heavy rain today. At several points the road was flooded well into the carriageway. This has also happened recently when there has been prolonged rain.

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report. Gully levels checked and maintained biennially along the A180, however, the problem of flooding generally comes from the lack of channel sweeping to remove detritus prior to it effecting the gullies, this activity is not National Highways responsibility, Local Authorities have a legal duty to sweep the A180. The A180 route falls under the jurisdiction of two local authorities, depending on the section of the road. North East Lincolnshire Council manages the eastern portion of the road running through Grimsby towards Cleethorpes (including key structures like the Gilbey Road and Cleethorpe Road bridges). North Lincolnshire Council manages the western portion of the A180, originating from the M180 junction and bypassing Immingham.

    Kind regards
