Traffic lights not working
Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 09:21, Saturday 16 May 2026
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9460752.
I was travelling at around 8.45a on Friday 15 may and the temporary traffic lights were not working properly. At the exit point into a66. The red indicator switch to orange and green didn't happen at all and cars behind me (I was at the of the queue) honked as the signals stopped working entirely with no lights showing for any state (red, orange or green)

Thank you for making your report.
On 8 May, there was a road traffic accident that destroyed several traffic signal cabinets and has meant we can't return them to service until they are fully repaired, which will require quite significant work.
On 9 May, temporary traffic signals were deployed but didn't provide the synchronisation required to keep traffic moving effectively at this vital junction. These initial lights were replaced last week with a more suitable set of temporary lights. The current system in place will better match the permanent set up. These will be in place until the permanent fix which should take place over the coming weeks.
We're aware the temporary lights have been causing some congestion and the site is being monitored several times a day by traffic officers, inspectors and remote use of the cameras in the area.
Kind regards
