A27 bridge walk ways
Reported via iOS in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category by Mathew Luker at 10:28, Monday 11 May 2026
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9432810.
Please can all steps, slopes and public footpaths leading to the A27 footbridge at Langstone, on both the north and south sides, be fully cleared and cut back, including, The metal boundary fence area at the bottom of South Street The walkway behind Rectory Road from the bridge through to Hamilton Close All vegetation encroaching onto the footpaths and access slopes. In several locations, vegetation has encroached approximately 30cm onto the paths, significantly reducing usable width and creating accessibility issues. There is also a substantial build-up of leaves, sticks and debris from overgrown hedges, which becomes extremely slippery in wet conditions and presents a clear slip hazard for pedestrians on the slopes and stairs.
In addition, the bridge deck drainage appears blocked again, as the bridge floods during heavy rain due to drains filling with debris.
Given the ongoing nature of the problem, please also implement a biannual vegetation clearance and hedge maintenance programme to prevent reoccurrence and keep the route safe and accessible year-round

Thank you for making your report. Our local inspector has confirmed they have requested vegetation to be cut back behind Tudor crescent. The vegetation at the start of the slope access at WTW ///arena.fight.rigid is the responsibility of the local authorities.
Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
Kind regards National Highways
