Flags

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 10:01, Wednesday 6 May 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9407159.

Between M42 b 22.9 and 21.9 there are 3 bridges that cross the motorway with flags on upright and horizontal railings. These have significantly increased in number in the last week. Concerned that only one of these flags needs to come loose to cause a massive pile up on the motorway and are a risk to life

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about flags.

We have passed this to one of our local inspectors to confirm that this is on our property. Safety is our priority and we do all we can to protect those who use our roads. Items such as flags attached to a bridge could pose a danger to motorists on the road below and so may need to be removed for safety reasons.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
