Urgent Safety Hazard - Overhanging Tree and Falling Branches
Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category anonymously at 13:34, Wednesday 22 April 2026
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9336308.
Hello,
I am following up on a previous report made approximately two months ago regarding a large tree overhanging our property at 28 Benton Close, Witham.
Since that report, the situation has worsened. Large branches have now fallen into our garden, posing a clear and immediate safety risk to both residents and property.
We were previously advised that an inspector would attend, however no inspection or action appears to have taken place.
We have a 9 month old baby who will not be allowed in the garden, and given the escalation and risk involved, please can this be treated as urgent and confirm:
* When an inspection will take place * What action will be taken to make the tree safe
I would appreciate a prompt response.
Kind regards, Katherine Scrowther

Thank you for making your report. We have asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue. If any work is needed, they will arrange for this to happen.
Unfortunately I am not able to give an appointment time however I have given the Inspector your telephone number so that he can arrange a convenient time to call in.
Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
Kind regards National Highways
