Unacceptable Road Surface

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 08:41, Wednesday 1 April 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9222738.

M54 Eastbound Jct 4 to Jct 2, M54 Westbound Jct 2 to Jct 3, the roadsurface is poor and worn, causing unnecessary damage to vehicles.

Lane 1, in both directions is worn, with various patches, and the NVH transmission is terrible. It is noticeably worse, in terms of vibrations damaging suspension components, than lane 2 (which itself isn't fantastic).

The Americans make concrete "highways" work, but they do a lot of surface processing to do so.

The whole section needs upgrading to either be a proper concrete motorway (as the Americans do) or fully tarmacked (as the Westbound Jct 3 to Jct 4 was a few years ago).

The current surface has totally degraded to a point that is unacceptable for a first world country motorway.
