Signs seem to be stuck on

Reported via desktop in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 13:48, Friday 27 March 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9198794.

Near Corley services, for the past month or so, no matter what time of day and night, the signs have been showing 'Report of obstruction', along with a 50mph speed restriction. This is always the same gantries, and so it seems these have either not been turned off, or are stuck on.

Updates

  • Thank you contacting National Highways.

I’m sorry for the confusion and inconvenience the speed limit has caused, especially when there’s no obvious reason for it.

The reduced 50mph limit around Corley Services is currently in place because a stopped vehicle detector on the southbound exit slip was destroyed in a recent HGV fire. Until the replacement unit is installed and fully calibrated, we’ve applied temporary speed restrictions in the area to maintain safety for all road users.

I appreciate it can seem unnecessary when the road looks clear, but the measures are there to mitigate the loss of the equipment. As soon as the new detector is up and working correctly, the temporary speed limit will be removed.

Thanks again for raising this, and for your patience while we get the system restored.

There’s lots of useful information relating to this on our Variable Speed Limits page which you may find helpful.

    Kind regards National Highways
