Spiral white lines worn away causing near misses and congestion

Reported via desktop in the Faded / Hard to see (NH) category anonymously at 20:19, Thursday 19 March 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9150572.

Location: A55/A483 Posthouse Roundabout, Chester – westbound A55 (Manchester → Chester movement)

Issue: Missing/insufficient lane guidance (spiral markings) within the circulatory carriageway, particularly across and immediately beyond the yellow box junction.

Detail: The westbound A55 approach provides three lanes which should distribute into four circulating lanes. In practice, due to absent or worn spiral guidance markings, lanes 2 and 3 are not being drawn leftwards and instead continue into lanes 2 and 3 of the circulatory carriageway. This leaves lane 1 underutilised and results in traffic concentrating into three effective lanes.

Impact: • Reduced junction capacity (4 lanes operating as 3) • Late lane changes approaching exits (notably toward Chester) • Increased side-swipe and rear-end collision risk due to lane uncertainty • Inconsistent driver behaviour within a signal-controlled environment

Request: Review and reinstate clear spiral lane guidance markings through the circulatory area (including across the box junction if appropriate) to correctly map the three-lane approach into four lanes and align traffic with exit lanes.

This appears to be a lane allocation/design performance issue rather than driver behaviour
