Multiple lights on A666 not working

The lighting on the A666 from the Kearsley roundabout to the M60, in both clockwise and anticlockwise directions, has not been functioning for months. This is creating a serious and unacceptable safety risk. The road contains multiple sharp bends, there are no warning signs, and there are no cats’ eyes to support visibility. In wet or dark conditions, this stretch becomes genuinely hazardous.
It is unclear whether the lights are faulty or have been deliberately switched off. If they have been turned off to reduce costs, this decision is irresponsible and puts road users in danger—particularly those unfamiliar with the area. If they are not switched off intentionally, then the lack of repair over such a long period is equally concerning.
I am requesting a clear explanation for why these lights are not operational and what immediate action will be taken to restore safe driving conditions on this section of the A666.

We have switched lighting off on this stretch of road to support the Department of Transport’s aim to reduce carbon emissions. These roads have been carefully chosen with all road users safety considered.
We are still using road lighting where it is needed, however, we are confident that we can use less of it without a significant impact on safety. We will continue to monitor this and may restore the lighting if the situation changes.
