Dear Sir/Madam, Re: Rear Boundary Fence Backing onto the A1 (Near Black Cat Roundabout) I am writing regarding the rear boundary fence at my property, 14 Church Street, Tempsford, SG19 2AN, which backs directly onto the A1 near the Black Cat roundabout. For over 30 years, a substantial invasive weed has grown from a neighbouring garden, spreading across my garden and into the adjacent property. I am unsure of its original source; however, it continues to thicken and spread each year.
I regularly cut back the growth on my side in an effort to manage it. However, I am unable to safely address the growth on the A1 side of the fence due to the obvious dangers posed by its close proximity to the live carriageway.
As a result, the vegetation has become extremely heavy and is now pulling the top of the fence outward toward the A1. This has caused the fence to lean significantly and created a widening gap at the bottom.
The structure is no longer secure, and I am concerned that continued pressure may cause it to fail completely. Should this occur, it could present both a safety risk and a security concern.
Given that the road near the Black Cat roundabout is currently subject to works and closures, this appears to be a practical and timely opportunity to assess and potentially undertake any necessary works while traffic management measures may already be in place.
I have written separately to Amplius Housing Association to formally request that they assess and arrange replacement of the rear boundary fence. However, given the direct interface with the A1 and the potential risk to the highway, I felt it appropriate to notify the Highways Agency of the situation.
I would be grateful if you could confirm whether this matter falls within your remit, whether an inspection can be arranged, and how this will be progressed. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours faithfully, Hayley Harris 14 Church Street Tempsford SG19 2AN
