Large pothole 1st lane m61 north chorley
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8865611.
7/2/2026 @00:45 - m61 approx between porta micro systems and Blackburn brow bridge.
Driving along 1st lane. Drivers side of vehicle dropped into a hole and made a loud bang. Could not see the hole due to poor visibility, (dark / no lighting), but from the way the vehicle dropped, I believe it to be a significant size.
My front driver tyre / alloy has side damage. I am not aware as yet if there has been any further damage to the shocks / alignment etc.
There is a potential concern for blow outs, but I did not report as an emergency as I could not see the hole or stop the vehicle to analyse is depth / gauge.

If any work is needed, they will arrange for this to happen. Should no immediate work be required we will continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.
Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
