Dangerous Pothole on entry sliproad to A1

Reported via desktop in the Pothole (NH) category anonymously at 09:57, Sunday 8 February 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8864514.

At the entry point to the A1 Trunk Road from the southbound slip road the road surface is now so broken up as to be dangerous. There is a very large deep and dangerous pothole directly on the line to join the main road into fast flowing traffic which one has to go over at speed. This is causing traffic to swerve as the pothole is approached and is a danger to not only drivers entering the A1 but to those already coming from the North at high speed.

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report.

We're aware of the potholes on the A1 Stannington. Hotboxing repair work is due to start in March 2026, safety defects to be dealt with reactively when identified by our Inspectors.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards
