50mph for no reason

Reported via mobile in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 01:50, Sunday 8 February 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8863645.

Travelling up the M1 from Birmingham airport with a significant number of 50mph restrictions unnecessarily other than to test technology. Significant impact to journey time at 01:30hrs not sure why the length of these needs to be so long causing frustration on an already tiring journey. If technology is to be tested these could be set at a higher speed limit given there is no risk to people working g on the road.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

We do understand delays on journeys can be frustrating, especially when it appears there is no apparent reason. So we can fully investigate, can you please provide a more specific location (or locations) where you encountered the reduced speed limits.

Junction numbers, marker posts of specific place names would help us with your enquiry if possible.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
