Standing water in left lane causing aquaplaning between 50 mph and 70 mph zone

Reported via desktop in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 09:51, Thursday 5 February 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8843303.

When there is heavy or prolonged rain, a large amount of standing water builds up in the left (slow) lane at this location. The issue has been present for a long time and occurs repeatedly during rainfall. This section coincides with a speed increase from 50 mph to 70 mph, meaning vehicles in the left lane are accelerating when they encounter deep water, creating a high risk of aquaplaning. The water does not appear to drain properly and remains on the carriageway, making this stretch particularly dangerous in wet conditions. An inspection of drainage and appropriate remedial action would significantly improve safety.
