Potholes and uneven surface

Reported via desktop in the Pothole (NH) category anonymously at 08:15, Thursday 5 February 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8842407.

Dear Highways, This message serves as a formal notification of multiple dangerous potholes on [A34 southbound from Didcot towards M4]. Various defects present a serious and foreseeable risk of vehicle damage, collision, and injury. Parts of this roadway are unacceptable and fails to meet the standard required of a safely maintained public highway. Under your statutory obligations within the Highways Act 1980, taxpayers expect the following without delay:

Immediate inspection and urgent remedial works to eliminate the hazard. A clear, written timeframe for temporary and permanent repairs. Provision of inspection, maintenance, and defect‑report records for this location.

This correspondence constitutes a formal record of your notice of the hazard. Should the defects remain unaddressed and cause vehicle damage or personal injury, I will consider pursuing all available legal remedies, including:

A claim for damages arising from failure to maintain the highway in a safe condition. Use of documented notice as evidence of prior knowledge of the defect. Seeking reimbursement for repair costs, losses, or any injury‑related expenses attributable to the defect.

I require a written response confirming the actions being taken and the schedule for completing repairs. Regards, Daniel PM
