The pedestrian crossing button is faulty so as soon as the lights go green the button lights up so that the traffic’s lights will go red.

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 18:16, Tuesday 3 February 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8831556.

The pedestrian crossing button is faulty so it is causing the traffic lights to go red despite no pedestrians crossing. This is causing very long delays in Burpham and from Jacob’s Well on Clay Lane. A technician was seen a few days ago looking at the lights but the problem has not been resolved.

Updates

  • I reported on Tuesday 3rd Feb that the lights at the junction with the A3 slip road on Clay Lane were turning red for no reason i.e. there was no pedestrian waiting to cross and the slip road filter light was on green. I received a response saying the issue had been fixed but this morning the lights are still turning red for no reason and this is causing significant tailbacks along Clay Lane and back into Burpham itself.

  • Problem is still there, pedestrian crossing lights are continuing to stop the through traffic and therefore causing a traffic build up for half a mile into Merrow

  • Still not fixed this morning

  • Please fix this. Causing huge and unnecessary traffic on Clay lane. Backing onto A3 in rush hours

  • This is frustrating - why is this not fixed yet? It’s still causing delays. The pedestrian crossing is constantly stopping the traffic lights and causing queues when there are no pedestrians pressing the button
