Dead Deer

Reported via desktop in the Off the carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 11:49, Sunday 1 February 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8812653.

Dead deer on the banking next to the exit sign eastbound for Huddersfield at Outlane Exit 23. There is a considerable amount of litter on the banking creating an eyesore for overlooking properties.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about a deceased deer and litter on the banking on the M62 near Outlane junction 23.

Safety is our highest priority. Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they’ll be removed if they’re considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.

Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.

We have drainage works planned in this area in March when we’ll also carry out a litter pick.

    Kind regards National Highways
