Large Fir tree - close to the A38 - possible danger to life
Reported via desktop in the Overgrown or obscuring view (NH) category by Byron Jackson at 12:33, Monday 26 January 2026
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8769876.
The tree is around 90 foot and well spread - as a fir tree it has shallow roots and we are concerned that the tree requires checking as the upper growth appears to be too heavy. If the tree falls it would likely fall onto the A38 or the property within its reach. If the tree could either be felled or topped to prevent.
Updates
-
With the recent rain and wind - this tree and other firs in the area require checking. A recent incident on the B3372 brought down powerlines and could have been fatal. Someone checked minor trees in Stidston lane but it is the large fir tree that poses a significant risk to life - if it falls either on the A38 or onto our property Robin Cottage.

Thank you for making your report about the large Monterey pine tree. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us with your concerns.
Our Environment team have been to site to address the issues you've raised.
A risk assessment was carried out and the risk of the tree causing harm is low and still within tolerable limits.
We've arranged for another inspection in July to see if the condition of the tree has improved or changed. The risk will be reviewed on the next inspection and remedial works will be recommended if necessary.
We hope this helps with your enquiry. If you require any further information please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@nationalhighways.co.uk, or visit our website at www.nationalhighways.co.uk
