No barrier to inside carriage way

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 10:49, Saturday 24 January 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8756806.

There is an approximate 10metre drop from the left inside carriageway onto a concrete culvert. The culvert is to the rear of our home, Elton, Darlington Road, Stockton TS21 1AG. I am concerned that if a vehicle or cyclist left the carriageway there is no protection to prevent them from falling into the culvert causing serious harm. I would appreciate you considering my concerns and I am happy to show you the area of concern.

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report.

We have plans to install a Vehicle Restraint System at this location. This will reduce the risk of vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians falling into the culvert.

This is programmed in to be completed by the end of the financial year.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people. Kind regards National Highways
