Damage to carriageway and verges

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 09:16, Saturday 24 January 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8756121.

Overnight works are taking place on the A27 between Fontwell and Tangmere. The signage for the diversion route is inadequate and so use is being made of a narrow lane called Wandleys Lane. This lane is only some 2.5m wide and unsuited to the traffic using it as a diversion. Damage has occurred to the road surface and mud from the verges spread all over the road. As you have permitted the overnight closure without ensuring an adequate and clearly signed route, National Highways must accept responsibility for this. Please ensure that a suitable diversion route is clearly indicated and assist in restoring the condition of Wandleys Lane
