Bridge Barriers

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 11:01, Thursday 22 January 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8741913.

We understand that a refurbishment scheme for the bridge structure is currently programmed for 2031/32. However, we believe this work should be brought forward due to concerns for the safety of pedestrians and other road users.

The bridge railings are very low (approximately 90cm) and present a potential safety risk, particularly given that vehicles, including buses, pass over the bridge at speeds of up to 30mph.

We would be happy to provide photographs to support these concerns if required. Hucclecote Parish Council

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways concerning Lobley's Drive Bridge.

We understand the Parish Council’s concerns, and as you say Lobley’s Drive bridge is included in our programme for 2031/32, subject to funding. There are multiple structures along this stretch of the M5 that require attention, and unfortunately it isn’t possible to deliver all of these schemes at the same time. For that reason, they’ve been prioritised based on the level of need.

Please be assured that we continue to monitor and inspect this structure closely. If its condition changes or new information comes to light, we will review its priority within the programme. Based on what we know today, however, it remains scheduled for delivery in 2031/32.

If you require any further information, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
