Multiple lights not working
Reported via desktop in the Not working (NH) category anonymously at 09:39, Tuesday 20 January 2026
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8725960.
I have tried several different ways to send this message but it fails to get delivered. Please get this issue sorted, I can see others are reporting this along the A259 routeā¦. Over a year ago my husband and I noticed that around the approaches to Little Common roundabout there were over 12 street lights not working. Last March we explored further and found that at least 17 lights were not working between Hill Farm (start of Barnhorn road) and the roundabout. If one continued on the A259, between the roundabout and Sutherland Avenue there were at least 11 not working.
We reported this to Fix my Street on 6 March 2025 and all that happened was that the report was closed the next day saying that the inspection team would attend and assess, arranging any work considered necessary. Nothing changed. This week we counted a total of 38 non-working street lights between King Offa & Little Common roundabout, across both sides of the road. We have not looked to see how many are now not working along Barnhorn road but would not be surprised if it were more than the 17 we counted last year.
This is the A259, the main (only) East West trunk road and Little Common roundabout is a key junction with high volumes of traffic at all times. Surrounded by housing and with shops bordering all sides of the roundabout the five pedestrian crossing points are used a lot.
As drivers approaching the Little Common roundabout are reluctant to slow down any pedestrians crossing can find it quite challenging. With so many lights inoperative around the roundabout there are areas that are so dark that footways are in total darkness making it harder for motorists to see the potential hazards of pedestrians, cyclists and dog walkers. All are very vulnerable when using this area.

Thank you for making your report,
We are due to undertake surveys on the streetlights on the A259 to identify all of the faulty or non working streetlights.
Once these surveys are complete and we understand the complete scope of works, we can begin to plan the works and order the necessary parts. These works will be completed as part of our LED upgrade scheme where we plan to upgrade all of the streetlights to a more effective and more efficient LED streetlight.
Kind Regards,
National Highways.
