Standing water and road surface defects – M4 eastbound J5 (bridge section)

Reported via mobile in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 20:34, Mon 22 December 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8582657.

On 18 December at approximately 1:30pm, while travelling on the M4 eastbound near Junction 5 on the bridge section, there was a significant accumulation of standing surface water in the fast lane, combined with uneven road surface defects.

The water appeared suddenly and covered a large section of the lane, creating a serious risk of aquaplaning. Due to this being a live motorway and an elevated bridge, it was not safe or possible to stop and take photographs.

These conditions are dangerous for road users, particularly at motorway speeds, and present a serious safety risk.
