Dead small animals (kittens?) at junction exit

Reported via mobile in the Off the carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 15:08, Thu 4 December 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8502128.

I am not sure what the animal is, but it looks like 2-3 small kittens, grey colour, dead and lying on the road. Very upsetting to see as I use this road everyday and am worried will be flattened by cars on the roundabout. Please remove before they are flattened, really upsetting. Could be other ones in the middle of the road - saw it yesterday but 2 were definitely on the right side, saw today (4th december 2025). Location is the most right side of the lane heading towards the roundabout, whitebirk interchange junction 6 from m65, just before the actual roundabout so on the road leading to it where the lanes separate into multiple lanes before approaching the roundabout. Furthest to the right. I use this route daily and I’m a huge animal lover with severe mental health issues so this is causing me a lot of distress. Please clear this as soon as possible. Thank you.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.

Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.

Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.

Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.

Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.

    Kind regards National Highways
