Traffic lights out of sync

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 21:20, Saturday 29 November 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8480988.

Traffic lights only allowing a maximum of 3 vehicles through on green at any one time, causing long tailbacks into Copthorne and gridlock onto the roundabout at peak times, as well as long queues on the M23 exit slip from the northbound carriageway. This has been an issue for the last 3 days.

Updates

  • Huge tailbacks of traffic

  • This is a dangerous situation and WILL cause an accident on the motorway if not addressed soon. The lights are only staying green for 6 seconds.

  • Fault still in place causing significant congestion on roundabout.

  • Fault still in place and traffic lights in all directions are only allowing 3/4 vehicles through at any one time. It was chaos at 2pm this afternoon trying to get from east grinstead to Crawley - and it’s even worse at rush hour.

  • Folks,

You may already be aware but the lights at the roundabout over the M23/Copthorne Way/Crawley avenue are not working correctly. Each light is staying green for no more than 10 to 15 seconds. This is causing huge tail backs in both directions. During rush hour this morning the tail back was as far as the Copthorne Golf Club.

Even now at 10:30am there is tail backs in both directions.

    Hope this helps,

  • The traffic lights are still causing problems. Only letting about 3 cars through at a time. It is particularly dangerous for those on the m23 who are trying to leave via the slip road as the lights are causing long queues on the carriageway. This needs to be fixed ASAP as an accident is bound to happen
