Faulty road sensor causes long delays for all traffic; fails completely to detect motorcycles.

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 12:07, Fri 28 November 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8476385.

The underground sensor (induction loop) in the right-turn lane on Southampton Road (A36) into the Wessex Water plant is faulty.

1. For Motorcycles: It fails completely. I was stuck at the red light for 10 minutes and it only changed when a car arrived behind me. A motorcycle cannot trigger a green light. 2. For Cars: I have been informed that even cars are left waiting for excessively long periods, indicating a general fault with the sensor's sensitivity or timing.

This is a serious safety and congestion issue. A motorcycle that is not detected is vulnerable to being rear-ended. The excessive delays for all vehicles also cause unnecessary traffic buildup, especially during peak hours.

Exact Location: The junction is on Southampton Road, Salisbury, adjacent to the new Peters Finger junction. The right-turn lane is for the Wessex Water plant, with McDonald's on the opposite side.
