Congestion / Slip road not fit for purpose

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 09:36, Tue 25 November 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8461528.

The slip road is not suitable for the amount of traffic. Cars regularly backed up it all directions including down the slip road onto the motorway which is a huge safety hazard.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways concerning junction 14 of the M5.

We've currently three separate schemes planned for the M5 Junction 14.

The first scheme will be to increase the length of the northbound off slip to create two lanes of extended stacking length off the main line carriageway which is currently in the detailed design stage with a likely implementation in the 2026/2027 financial year.

The second and third schemes will then improve the junction layout and update the signalisation at the top of the slip road. These schemes are also in detailed design and will likely be constructed in the 2027 financial year.

The effect of the above schemes will be to significantly improve the efficiency of the junction thereby improving the throughput of traffic and also, by default, also improve the safety at this very busy interchange.

If you require any further information, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
