A23 southbound road markings invisible in rain

Reported via mobile in the Faded / Hard to see (NH) category anonymously at 09:51, Sun 23 November 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8453159.

Was driving southbound A23 from m23 in rain, a very familiar route but I’ve not for a while. Road markings I think after Pyecombe turning until BP Mill Road roundabout were practically non- existent to the eye and confounded by surface textures of darker black / grey. There have been crashes at pyecombe in the past. It felt like three lanes of improvisation after clear M23/a23 under good lights. Dangerous transition.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

We're currently carrying out a resurfacing scheme 'A23 Patcham to Bolney' under 2 phases with works stating on 24 Northbound until early January, with the southbound carriageway to be resurfaced from February. This scheme will include the refreshment of road markings.

    Kind regards
