No sign makes A34/B4027 junction a death trap

Reported via mobile in the Sign Obscured (NH) category anonymously at 00:01, Thu 13 November 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8411764.

There is no road sign on the traffic island between the off and on slips of the A34 northbound junction to the B4027. This makes the junction and the very sharp turn completely invisible to exiting traffic when dark.

I crashed my car here on Monday evening when heading northbound, and it went into the ditch on the other side of the exit, where it hit one of two other cars that had recently done the same as me, so this is clearly a very serious safety issue. It's only a matter of time before someone is injured or killed.

The other exits from the A34 (except, I noticed, the same exit southbound!) have simple white signs stating where the exit goes. These are highly reflective and make the location of the bend on the exit slip visible, even without direct Illumination by headlights. Because of the lack of a sign, I saw the bend only at the very last minute and it was too late for me to stop.

To illustrate the point, I revisited the exit a second time today. This time, even though I knew what was coming, the bend in the exit slip still took me by surprise and I had to brake hard to take the bend safely.
