M27 West bound between Port Solent and Fareham.

Reported via mobile in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 22:53, Sunday 9 November 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8396181.

On the M27 West bound between Port Solent and Fareham there have been 50mph speed limit signs in place for at least 6 months but there is no sign of any roadworks or reason for these signs. It is very dangerous as many people now ignore these signs as no-one can see any reason for them.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the traffic management equipment.

A temporary speed limit has been installed until repairs to the damaged parapet can be completed. In the meantime, you will see a varioguard safety barrier has been installed. The reduction in speed is to avoid any further accidents involving the public or any more damage to the parapet. The parapet system in this area is likely to be fully replace under a scheme called the M27 Hillsley Road Underpass.

Due to the scale of the work needed, we predict this project will be in place until late 2026 at the very earliest. The speed restrictions will stay in place until these works are completed. The reduction in speed is to avoid any further accidents, reducing the risk to the public, as well as any further damage to the parapet.

    Kind regards National Highways
