Grafitti still on the bridge after 9 months

Reported via desktop in the Graffiti (NH) category anonymously at 11:47, Tue 28 October 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8347485.

After a previous report more than 6 months ago nothing has been done. There is still unsightly grafitti on the bridge and the usual 'routine maintenance' excuse doesn't seem to cut it. It's blatant negligence, unsightly and not a good welcome to the city. The grafitti is being added to. Neglect breeds more neglect. This needs action from someone who actually cares about these reports and the community. Action please.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding graffiti.

We prioritise the removal of offensive graffiti within 24 hours of our inspection. Our team regularly monitors the network to ensure such issues are dealt with promptly. Non-offensive graffiti, however, will remain in place. Due to the high cost of removal and limited resources available to local councils and police for identifying and prosecuting offenders, and the frequency of repeat incidents, it is not feasible to allocate designated funds for its removal.

Instead, available funding will be directed towards higher-priority concerns, such as carriageway repairs and safety defects which have a more significant impact on road users.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
