Traffic flow slip road junction 8/9 M4 Holyport Interchange Eastbound

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 07:03, Fri 17 October 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8306139.

Since the resurfacing this week, the traffic sequencing is now incorrect , causing long tail backs onto the main M4 carriage way eastbound causing standing traffic in live lanes. Please can the sequencing be returned to it former times. Its causing delays and very dangerous.

Updates

  • The lights continue to be out of seq causing long delays on the exit lane. Cars are now pulling out on the second lane to bypass the traffic and this morning there was nearly a very serious accident as a car pulled infront of a lorry doing 60mph plus.

  • Best thing to do is call the National Highways number and report there, you actually get to speak to an operator... I reported the issue again last Friday afternoon, the operator said they would send an engineer. Obviously nothing has happened yet. The last time this happened un May it took weeks for it to be fixed.

  • Ps... National Highways don't read these updates. You will need to flag it on the map too if you haven't already done so 😊

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

We’re really sorry to hear about the disruption and safety concerns caused by the traffic signal sequencing following the recent resurfacing works.

Our team visited the site last week and found that the detection loops, which help manage the traffic signal timings, had not yet been commissioned at the time. This meant the signals were running on fixed timings, which unfortunately led to the delays and congestion you experienced.
We’re pleased to confirm that the loops were commissioned on Friday. This should now resolve the sequencing issues and help traffic flow more smoothly through the area.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation, but if you notice any further problems, please do let us know.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience caused.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
