Thank you for your report, whilst we appreciate you taking the time to report this, we have a wide network of trees to manage across the south of England and with a limited budget are required to concentrate our efforts on customer safety and tree health within our maintainable boundaries. As part of our maintenance programme, we won’t cut back healthy trees or trees that aren’t deemed a safety risk. Only dead, damaged or trees that are considered a safety risk will be maintained as part of our maintenance survey inspections. The trees along the A27 are monitored as part of our 3 year cyclic landscape survey inspections, whereby qualified independent specialists make assessments about the safety and health of trees. The last survey in this area was carried out in early 2023 when no safety issues were recorded to the trees in this area. The allotment property owner is legally allowed to manage vegetation that extends onto their property, and they don’t require permission should they choose to cut back the branch. Any quotes for a contractor to carry out these works would be at the property owner’s own expense, and these works would only be permitted within their property’s boundary. Further information on our tree management is available at: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-work/ environment/ biodiversity/ tree-management/ and https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-work/ environment/ biodiversity/ trees-near-your-property/
Kind regards
National Highways
