Dead deer
Reported via desktop in the Off the carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 15:06, Mon 13 October 2025
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8289955.
Many dead deer have been visible along the stretch of the A120 between Ramsey and Colchester Business Park. This has been ongoing for approximately 1–2 weeks, and no cleanup appears to have taken place. Sadly, many of the animals have been driven over repeatedly. Additionally, there is a dead badger on the A120 between Colchester and Horsley Cross. This situation is very distressing to me and likely to many other road users. At the very least, cleanup should be prompt. Ideally, measures should be considered to help prevent this from happening in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Updates
-
Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on our network.
Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.
Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification.
Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay. However, they will be removed if they are considered a hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.
Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.
Kind regards National Highways
