Graffiti in underpass

Extensive graffiti in underpass and also the tiles are falling off the walls

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding graffiti and loose tiles to the underpass.

We prioritise the removal of offensive graffiti within 24 hours of our inspection. Our team regularly monitors the network to ensure such issues are dealt with promptly. Non-offensive graffiti, however, will remain in place. Due to the high cost of removal and limited resources available to local councils and police for identifying and prosecuting offenders, and the frequency of repeat incidents, it is not feasible to allocate designated funds for its removal. Instead, available funding will be directed towards higher-priority concerns, such as carriageway repairs and safety defects which have a more significant impact on road users We will arrange as assessment of the underpass when any safety defects fund will be addressed.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
