Culvert under the highway eroding

Reported via mobile in the Pothole (NH) category anonymously at 09:15, Wed 24 September 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8206373.

The road surface of the culvert under A38 is completely destroyed. The holemow reaches the clay layer underneath and exposed the A38 drainage system. If this erodes in heavy rain or flooding it could compromise the culvert and the A38 above it. Potentially a huge problem but a quick fix. The area of completely eroded road surface is about 6m by 6m.

Updates

  • It's getting worse by the day and encroaching on a drain , could destroy the drainage system under the hiway.

  • Thank you for making your report. We've asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue.

If any work is needed, they'll arrange for this to happen. Should no immediate work be required we'll continue to monitor this during our regular inspections.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards
