Back Lane Elsing unsafe diversion

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 11:57, Thu 18 September 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8182378.

The main road from Lyng to Dereham is closed for 8 weeks due to road changes. This is a double lane road. The diversion is through the village of Elsing, along Heath Road and Back Lane with is just a single lane country road. The amount and type of traffic being sent down this road is not suitable for the road. It has made the village very dangerous and the banks are now badly damaged. Due to the amount of traffic and type of traffic an accident was inevitable and this happened yesterday only 2 weeks into the road closure. This was not just a shunt on a blind corner it was a bad accident where a van rolled over. The diversion needs to be rerouted to a double lane road suck as through Swanton Morley or Weston Longville. Your map will not let me pin point the diversion but I have pinned where the road is closed. Today 2 lorries met on the corner of back lane which is a blind corner, there is nowhere for anyone to go so one lorry had to reverse round a blind bend. I expect there to be more accidents to come!!
