Requirement for a barrier

Reported via mobile in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category by Martin Conner at 19:21, Fri 5 September 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8126230.

Whilst cautiously using the cycle way today heading towards Ringwood and keeping to the left-hand side, at the sharp right hand bend and pinch point I met with an on coming cyclist who was riding a mountain bike in the middle of the cycle way. This resulted in me having to brake and swerve to avoid the other cyclist, ending up very close to falling off the high kerb into very fast on coming traffic using the slip road, my heart was in my mouth thinking what could have been.

I appreciate in a previous report it states the kerb meets a criteria for stop traffic mounting footpath/cycle way, but what about pedestrians and cyclists falling into the traffic???

Please can you reconsider adding a fence along footpath/cycle way at this location, as I feel it is only a matter of time someone will fall off the high kerb at this very sharp bend and pinch point, resulting in serious injuries or death.
