This slip road design presents multiple safety hazards

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 09:04, Tue 2 September 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8106595.

Location: A3 southbound on-slip/exit at Onslow Village, Guildford — by American Golf Guildford (junction with High View Road / Manor Way) and just after the pedestrian footbridge.

Merging onto the A3:

The pedestrian footbridge blocks the view of oncoming traffic, so drivers cannot clearly see before joining.

The run-on length is too short, forcing drivers to accelerate hard to match A3 speed.

A kerb sticks out near the merge, forcing vehicles to swing wide.

Together, these issues create frequent near misses, especially at busy times.

Turning off the A3 into the side road:

The entrance is very narrow and sharp, meaning vehicles must slow almost to a stop to turn safely.

This often leads drivers to put on hazard lights instead of indicators to warn traffic behind them, which is confusing and unsafe.

Following traffic on the A3 may not anticipate such sudden deceleration.

Impact on safety: Both joining and leaving the A3 here are dangerous — merging vehicles cannot see clearly or accelerate safely, and turning traffic has to slow dramatically, creating risk of rear-end collisions.

Request: Please review this slip road and side-road junction for urgent safety improvements — e.g. extending the merge length, re-aligning the kerb, improving sightlines past the footbridge, and modifying the side-road entrance so vehicles can turn more safely without abrupt deceleration.
