Sheppy crossing metal joints on the bridge missing towardss sheerness

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 19:13, Thu 28 August 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8087934.

The metal joints on the bridge are broken or missing on the road towards Sheerness therefore the sharp metal is taking lumps out of car tyres they are worse that potholes as the metal is sharp and they are cutting tyres, they can cause blow outs if you catch them. You don't see parts are missing until your about to cross them. The issue has been present since Christmas. One on the rise up the bridge and the other onthe way downthebrige towards Sheerness. Unable to take photos as no stopping on the crossing.

  • Missing sections of the bridge connector, incredibly dangerous for motorbike riders as you don’t see it until you’re on top of it. Not only are the metal sections missing which is causing damage to tyres but it’s trapping your wheel when you go over. A motorbike rider could easily come off because the jolt is too difficult to control. Recent Panorama on potholes documents the death of a motorbike rider because he hit a pothole - National Highways resolve the issue please!

  • There are pothole sized chunks missing from the Sheppey crossing expansion gaps, both sides of the bridge on the Sittingbourne side and on the sheppey bound carriageway of the bridge on the sheppey side. I believe these are highly dangerous, and will cause a huge accident if not fixed urgently. Please fix as soon as possible.

  • These repairs need to be done NOW, we went over in our motorhome yesterday and the violent thud was terrifying I thought my tyre had blown. All 4 expansion joints need to be addressed. Our vehicles need to be roadworthy why are the roads not kept up to the same standard
