Siting of traffic lights

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 14:57, Fri 22 August 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8061628.

I reported this problem several months ago but no action has been taken. When approaching the M18 slip road to Doncaster from the M180 at the Tudworth Interchang a hig number of drivers are mistaking the traffic light on the services lane as applying to the M18 slip. I reported this as I had witnessed a number of near accidents due to drivers braking when this light is at red and since that time I have seen more near misses especially with foreign drivers although I have found myself going for the brake when the light suddenly changes even though I am aware of the problem. The incidents are happening when drivers who are aware that there is no restriction to the M18 find that the person in front who mistakes the light suddenly braking in front of them. The traffic light in question either neads a hood so that it cannot be seen on entering the M18 slip or re-angling so that it obvious it does not apply to the slip road

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways

We can confirm that engineers have conducted multiple site visits to evaluate the positioning of these signals and have verified that they are installed according to design specifications.

However, the matter has been escalated for further assessment to determine whether additional measures can be implemented to help prevent any potential confusion.

Thank you for your continued patience while this is being reviewed.

    Kind regards
