Dying trees

Reported via mobile in the Fallen/ Dead Tree (NH) category anonymously at 15:02, Thu 21 August 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8057047.

Three of the trees lining the south verge of the A27 appear to be dying, possibly contaminated with Dutch Elm Disease. In a week they have shed a significant amount of yellow leaves and are nearly bare compared to the ones beside them. I have taken photos if needed.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

We’ve a wide network of trees to manage across the south of England and are required to concentrate our efforts on customer safety and tree health within our maintainable boundaries.

For vegetation located away from the immediate carriageway, on land owned by us, we adopt a policy of allowing natural growth unless it presents a safety concern. Only dead, damaged trees or vegetation which is considered a safety risk will be maintained as part of our 3 yearly survey inspection programmes.

If you believe the trees pose a safety risk, please email us directly at info@nationalhighways.co.uk providing the pictures you referenced. Please also include the address of the property these trees are adjacent too including the exact location using What3words https://what3words.com. This will help us to look into the matter further.

    Kind Regards

    National Highways
