Tyres, branches. Unwanted items in lay-bys

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 13:14, Wed 13 August 2025

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8019044.

A21 unwanted items, l have contacted all of the following councils East Sussex, Kent County and yourself and no one will take responsibility to have the A21 lay-bys and all debris removed from the carriageway and have all of the drains cleared of all fall debris that will cause them to be blocked.

Surely one organisation should be responsible to ensure that the carriageway is clear of all unwanted items and make the carriageway safe to be used by road users

What is the point of paying nearly £500 road tax and having to log an request about the state of the A21!!

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report,

National Highways don’t undertake litter picks on all purpose trunk roads, we will only conduct litter picks on motorways. Litter picking in this area would be down to the local authority to conduct who in this case is Kent County Council.

    Kind Regards,

    National Highways.
