Uneven surface

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8009638.
Following the installation of a pedestrian crossing / refuge on the A24/A27 Warren road adjacent to a newly constructed care home at 102 Warren road. There has been considerable disturbance from vehicles crossing the resulting poor road surface. What was intended to be a pedestrian crossing is now simply an additional traffic island that serves no apparent purpose. This is not the first time this matter has been raised. A team of contractors attended on 7/7/25 & there was a marked improvement. But those remedial work’s rapidly deteriorated and the disturbance returned. I was informed by the Highways agency that inspectors had visited the site and contacted the contractor to discuss the poor quality of work. I was proved with contact details for the contractor and advised to direct further enquiries to them directly. The Highways agency then marked the case as closed. The case is obviously not closed and this appears to be a complete abdication of responsibility by the Highways agency. I have contacted the contractors directly and they advised that work cannot be undertaken until 2/8/25 at the earliest due to a lack of permission from the Highways agency. This is unacceptable as the disturbance and intrusion is constant and gradually getting worse. I was informed by the Highways agency that the decision to change the pedestrian refuge / crossing to a traffic island was due to the contractor not obtaining the necessary permissions. The contractor has a rather different version of events. They claim to have paid £60k to the Highways agency for planning and design advice advice before construction. Only for the Highways agency to change their minds after the event. This debacle has been ongoing for many months, to the detriment of local residents & tax payers generally.
