Uneven surface
Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 12:57, Mon 4 August 2025
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7976546.
A new traffic island was recently installed at this location. Following these works a tarmac covered trench on the eastbound carriageway between the footway and the new traffic island has sunk. As a result there is substantial noise disturbance when vehicles (particularly HGV’s) cross the uneven surface. This is very intrusive 24 hours / day. I reported this incident approximately one month ago (ref 7821355). Contractors attended on 7/7/25 & the problem was resolved. But the remedial work appears to have failed within a few weeks. I don’t understand the purpose of this traffic island. It was originally intended as a pedestrian refuge to assist crossing a busy road. But the lowered kerbs have now been replaced by raised kerbs on both sides of the road & the traffic island. This work has been ongoing for several months & necessitated traffic control & late night works to the detriment of local residents. It seems to be a completely pointless & expensive exercise that has consumed resource & had only a negative effect.

Thank you for your report about the quality of the third party development works on Warren Road following their incorrect installation of a pedestrian crossing, which has since been changed to a traffic island. Our third party manager during a site visit in the area on 2 July observed the poor quality of works creating additional unacceptable noise disruption for residents. The developers’ contractors were instructed to address the poor workmanship and noise issues. Temporary repairs were carried out on 7 July, pending full, long term repairs, which are being finalised, subject to roadspace approval. Should you have any further questions around this scheme the developers Lawrence Baker can be contacted via their website www.lawrencebaker.co.uk.
Kind regards
