There are three construction joints running across the A642 whilst travelling over the M62, Rothwell intersection (junction 30) towards Wakefield. In places the joints are devoid of tarmacadam, revealing deep potholes. These holes are dangerous, getting worse and in urgent need of repair.

Thank you for contacting National Highways to report the potholes on A642. Any surfacing issues in this location are the responsibility of the local authority which in this instance is Leeds. However, we believe in this case the cause of the reported problem relates to the buried joints not providing enough capacity to expand which are leading to cracks in the surfacing. As such our team will issue a scheme for new joints to be installed over the buried joints that should rectify the issues being experienced. Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, please be aware timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
